To get a better understanding about people in order to avoid making mistakes about who we think they are

Philosophy

Once upon a time, Rick and I used to work together at a financial institution. A favorite memory from that time was the feeling I had after meeting with him. I used to walk into his office, sit in the comfy chair he had placed there specifically for his visitors so they would feel at ease when they met with him, and tell him of my work challenges or frustrations. He would listen patiently and often silently, and if no direction was needed from him, he would say one word: understood. Remarkably, this word would soothe and embolden me at the same time. I would leave his office feeling like I was heard (which everyone craves), but also feeling like I could take on the challenge in front of me, and the frustrations were solvable.

In the new chapter of our careers, we decided we want to make that kind of connection with anyone and everyone we meet, then translate that connection into action and results meaningful to them. Behavioral science and economics was the most logical choice for us to put that approach to good use.

We created a place where we produce the answers to your most pressing questions. Wonder why your customers don’t embrace your new products, or why your marketing efforts fail to get the lift your research predicted? Are your employee incentive programs not generating the results you expected? Puzzled by this “irrational behavior”? Behavioral economics not only provides some insights into why so many decisions appear irrational but a smart application of these insights helps you do a better job of connecting with your customers and your employees.

Join us on the journey into understanding behavioral science. Explore with our team some of the fundamentals of behavioral economics, the thinking of some of the brightest minds in this field, and enjoy examples of how our clients are leveraging these topics to reshape the way they go to market.

One of the biggest desires people have in life is to be understood. It’s true for me, and I’m sure it’s true for you – as a leader, a family member, a teammate, a human being.  Helping companies create environments where effective communication positively affects choices, decisions and actions made by employee and customer alike is my jam.

Understood Connections started with my desire to make connections; to connect companies with smart ideas, to help companies connect with their customers and employees. Asking the right questions to uncover the true nature of the problem is how I make a difference, and making a difference is work worth doing.
